Sound Sculpture - Neat!

I absolutely adore unique and interesting forms of art, and I recently came upon something very cool that falls into that category!  There are always those few artistic types that have the ability to see the intersection between two mediums.  The creative studio Dentsu teamed up with photographer Linden Gledhill to produce these beautiful sculptures, originally it was part of the campaign for the Canon Pixma Ink Printer.

See the video here.

Using sound vibrations and paint, the studio and photographer produced pieces that are elegant, completely unique, and beautiful.

Happy Earth Day!

To celebrate Earth Day and living green, San Francisco is holding a pretty wicked festival tomorrow, April 23rd, @ the Civic Center Plaza from 10am to 6pm.

I personally believe in sustainable living and reducing our impact on the earth.  Even if you aren't a believer, what can it hurt?

You can find out some neat ways to reduce your footprint and celebrate green living in honor of Earth Day here.

Conserve, recycle, reuse, and all that other jazz!

Old Pictures Made New

There is nothing more precious to me than the photos of my childhood.  In fact, at one point in my life I decided that if there was one thing I could save from a fire or disaster, it would be my photos.  I cherish the photos of myself and my family when we were younger, I love remembering how we were.

I recently stumbled upon a photographer that I believe is a kindred spirit.  Irena Werning has created an album full of old photo recreations, where the people in the photo reenact the scene identically, down to the types of clothes and emotions on their faces.

I most definitely want to try this with my sisters!

Scaredy Cats Vs. Preparedy Cats!

I have been an advocate of earthquake preparedness since I first moved to San Francisco.  I'll admit, I am downright paranoid about it.  I've taken the geology classes, ladies and gentlemen, and I understand what living on a fault line means!

I have always encouraged my loved ones (and anyone who will listen) to get prepared, even if you feel silly.  Honestly, I've seen too many zombie apocalypse movies to feel secure about civilization.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Pack an emergency kit.  I keep one in my house and one in my car.
2. Get a plan together and notify your loved ones as to where you will head to if the worst happens.  I go so far as to tell them exactly which roads and detours I would take.
3. Always make sure you include your pets in your plan!  I bought a harness for my cat, and have an emergency stash of kibble in my kit.

San Francisco has seen disaster before and the SFPD gives some really good tips on how to handle it here.

Let's not forget the 1906 quake in San Francisco...

Colored pictures of the 1906 San Francisco quake came out in March of this year, this is one.  Photographer Frederick Ives was found to be the only person who captured the disaster in color.

Shattered.

I am always looking for new and interesting ways to decorate myself, hence my adoration and addiction to nail polish.  I've sampled them all, from autumn oranges to lime greens, to dark browns and hot reds.  I've sampled sparkles and shinies, mattes and clears.  Ooh I love them all!

Opi's new line featuring Katy Perry, Shattered, looks like it most definitely needs to be added to my collection! The black "shattered" look is simply a top coat applied to any color, although the Katy Perry colors are pretty rad.  I think "Not Like the Movies" might be my favorite...

For now, it is tough to get your hands on these colors without heading to a nail salon.  I was invited to jump on a waiting list at Pure Beauty, but even I just can't get THAT excited about polish.

Chinese Tea

Something I've come upon once or twice in the city: a beautifully made cup of tea.  As a young girl, I became quite fond of tea.  Thanks to my mother, Lemon Zinger was my very first cup and still a favorite.

I must admit, the first time I came upon a tea shop I was surprised to learn that tea didn't just come in little bags within a box lined with wax paper.  I was introduced to a whole new world of tea I never knew existed.  In this little shop I found my mind blown at the prospect that tea could give you a buzz!  Not that I am constantly seeking the thrill of getting boozed up, but who knew that mixing a little hot water with some herbs could be so... refreshing?

I found myself cruising tea shops when I could, sniffing and tasting when offered.  Quite recently, I found my newest favorite: Chrysanthemum.  It's light and cool, beautiful, and with just enough bite to make things interesting.

Add these dried blossoms to a hot cup of water and watch them bloom.
